 ALL YEAR LONG!!!!'

Fishing Report for August 1st, 2007

The mullet run has been red hot the past few weeks with baitfish all over the place. North of the Jensen Beach Causeway, the trout bite has been good really on both sides of the river. Soft rubber baits and live shrimp are catching a mix of trout mostly in the 15-20 inch range but mixed in the shallow are some larger ones. Also look for ladyfish, flounder, jacks and tarpon cruising around. We fished a mullet school the other day right of the main channel up near the power plant and stayed on them for over an hour. Lot's of great action with jacks to 5 pounds, small bluefish and spanish mackerel to 5 pounds. We were throwing Joe's jigging spoons tipped with shrimp.

Most of the snook lately have been around the bridges. We are catching a few slot size snook but to be honest, this new 4 " slot is tough for those meat mongers out there. The dime bridge over the St. Lucie has been best on the outgoing with a mix of flounder, croakers, snook, jacks, ladyfish, goliath grouper and a few tarpon. Just 2 days ago we hooked up on a nice forty pounder for a great twenty minute battle.

The water has been on the dark side with all the rain lately but give it a few days to flush out. All in all the fishing has been good and look forward to a few more weeks of the mullet run.
