Fishing Report for July 1st, 2007
"Lookin for Snookin"

Well it's the dog days of summer with temps in the 90's and thunder boomers in the afternoon. It's also the spawning months for snook along the Treasure Coast. Along the beaches and inlets look for these linesiders with live baits such as mullet, sardines and greenies. It's important to use those circle hooks for a safe catch and release. Artificial baits like DOA's terrorize and baitbusters and Berkley's gulp will also do the trick. The St. Lucie Inlet has been holding snook along the south side near all those dredging pipes and of course at the detached jetty. Remember come September the new snook regulations start with 1 fish per person and a 4 inch slot from 28 to 32 inches. They are really making it tough for us !!!!!

Plenty of boats are still targeting those tarpon in the crossroads area. Pretty simple, anchor up and toss a few live baits off the stern and let them swim. It's a waiting game but sooner or later someone will enhale them. Besides tarpon in this area, expect some large jacks, snook or sailcats. The inlet has been super clean the past few months and the baitfish seem to be around.

Some tripletail are around the dime bridge and docks in the St. Lucie River. The black drum bite has slowed down along with the croaker bite. Up north in the Indian River, the trout bite has been good in 3-4 feet till about 9am. Some days the east side is hot and the next day the west is best. The main thing is get out early if fishing the shallow water. Channel markers in the Indian River have been slower than normal for tripletail but holding tons of small lane and mangrove snapper along with a few flounder. Last week we even caught 3 bonnet head sharks on the markers. Arond the Jensen Bridge a mix of flounder, snook and snappers. I know there is a golaith grouper down there over 100 pounds because I got my clock cleaned twice. Think I need to beef it up a bit !!!!!
